History:
The Overberg coastline, also called the Whale Coast is known as the place where the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and icy Atlantic Ocean meet. At Cape Agulhas, the southern most tip of Africa, more than 120 ships were wrecked on these turbulent waters. The stories of these unfortunate vessels are told in the Shipwreck Museum in Bredasdrop.
Fynbos is the smallest floral kingdom in the world and can be found only in South Africa, particularly in the Cape Overberg area. The South African national bird, the Blue Crane can also be found in the Cape Overberg and almost half of its remaining population has found a sanctuary in Napier – a small town in the Overberg. |
