- Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve
Whale Coast
Between the winter months of June and November tourist flock to the Overberg coast to catch a glimpse of the Southern Right, Bryde’s and Humpback Whales that frequent the area during this time. These gentle giants spend their summers in Antarctica before migrating thousands of miles to the Overberg/Whale Coast to mate and calve.
Shark Diving
Adventure sports are not uncommon in the Overberg, with shark diving being one of the most popular activities. The brave have the choice of viewing sharks from the boat or getting up close with them while in a cage under the water. Shark Alley in Gansbaai, where the chances of seeing great white shark are exceptionally high, is one of the places in the Overberg offering this once in a lifetime experience of meeting these fascinating predators of the sea.
Agulhas National Park
This national park is famous for having some of the most splendid examples of fynbos – a plant restricted largely to the southern Overberg. Here you will also find the Agulhas Lighthouse, historic wrecked ships and excellent whale watching during whale season.
Arabella Golf Course
This acclaimed golf course has won numerous awards including, top golf course in the Western Cape, number 2 golf course in South Africa and it was under Golf Digest’s USA’s Top 100 golf courses outside of America. This spectacular venue also hosts the Nelson Mandela Invitational annually. |
